Product Photography

A very cliché and albeit overused expression is “A picture is worth a thousand words”. This expression does ring true across many variations of photography. However in both commercial and personal product photography this only scratches the surface. The photo above is deliberately split into left and right. On the left is my Nans personal everyday items and on the right is my Grandads personal everyday items. Then in the centre is an old worthless sticky note, yet for an item that has no value it ties together this scene adding such value, offering information and a story at the centre of this photo. Now without knowing their full names or anything about them I have managed to explain in one photo their talents, their hobbies and their marriage. Thats the power of photography but more specifically product photography. To be able to extract and express not only what personal belongings mean to you, but to tell a story. Personal Items

Whether you are recently engaged, have been married for a considerable time or have had rings passed down from loved ones. Wedding rings are just one example of items and products that we hold close. As time moves on and things start to wither, their are only two things that stand the test of time. These two things are personal memories and digital photography. I think most would agree that digital photography is just an extension of truthful memories. For, time will separate us from treasured memories through days, months and years, yet photography helps to create a small window gazing into these.

Business Products

Photography is arguably the most commercially utilised tool in promoting your business or business product. Traditionally photography has been used to promote and document business products, however as time has gone on and stylised techniques have developed product photography has become more detailed in its promotion of products. We consume product photography every day without realising it, whether it be an online advert for clothing or a picture of a meal on food packaging. These images we consume and glaze over are subconsciously the defining factor on whether we are going to purchase a specific product over a competitors. Therefore I would argue the quality of your promotional photography is the deciding factor between a consumer buying your product or your competitors.
